Language interpreting is the facilitating of oral or sign-language communication, either consecutively or simultaneously, between speakers of different languages. Both the words interpreting and interpretation describe the process of communication.

An interpreter is a person who translates a thought or expression in a source language into an expression with an equivalent meaning in a target language and the process takes place in real time.
